26 September 2018: 10×10 hosted a salon with Emine Gozde Sevim and Linda Gordon at the Gitterman Gallery.
Emine Gozde Sevim (b. 1985, Istanbul) is a NY-based photographer, focusing on individual experiences amidst historic transitions. A recipient of the Magnum Foundation Grant, Sevim has published and received awards internationally. She’s worked in Afghanistan (2007), Israel and the West Bank (2010), Egypt (2011-13) and Turkey (2013-16), creating an “alternative” visual narrative within the context of post-9/11 – beyond religious – political discourse. Sevim’s first book, Embed in Egypt, was a finalist for MACK First Book Award and is a selection in 10×10’s How We See project.
NYU historian Linda Gordon has written on a variety of topics. Two of her books, The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction (1999) and Dorothea Lange: A Life Beyond Limits (2009), won the Bancroft prize for best book in US history. She published The Second Coming of the KKK in 2017. Gordon will discuss her upcoming book, Inge Morath: An Illustrated Biography, part of the Magnum Legacy series (series editor Carole Naggar, with a foreword by Andrew Lewin) – a limited number of advance copies will be available for purchase at this Salon.
As always, books were available for purchase and viewing.
A big thank you to Tom Gitterman and John Cowey at Gitterman Gallery.
