Jason Fulford is a photographer and co-founder of
J&L Books. He is a Guggenheim Fellow, a frequent lecturer at universities, and has led workshops across the United States, in Japan, Italy, Poland, The Netherlands, Germany and Spain. His monographs include Sunbird (2000), Crushed (2003), Raising Frogs for $$$ (2006), The Mushroom Collector (2010), Hotel Oracle (2013), and Contains: 3 Books (2016). He is a co-author with Tamara Shopsin of the children’s photobook, This Equals That (2014), and a co-editor with Gregory Halpern of The Photographer’s Playbook (2014). Fulford’s photographs have been described as open metaphors that explore how meaning is generated through association.
Valentina Abenavoli was born in the 1980s in Naples, Italy. She prefers photography in lyrical sequences that function at the edge of awareness and reverie. After completing a degree in photography, a Masters in book publishing and several odd jobs, Valentina co-founded in 2012 the independent publishing house AKINA with Alex Bocchetto. With a focus on challenging contemporary photography, AKINA collaborates with emerging and established artists to publish books that take an experimental approach to visual narrative structures, editing, paper combinations, and book production. AKINA’s books are published in limited and handmade editions
